A Strange STD- Another Canada Pharmacy Miracle

Having a STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) can be a huge shock. What is it that you may or may not know about STD’s? Come to find out getting Clamydia is quite common.  Yes that’s the STD that my friend a few years back.  I didn’t know but Clamydia can be  completely cured.  How awesome for my friend.

Even though she is now in a wheel chair from a serious bone condition, while she’s dying, she recalled the other day when years ago she had pelvic infammatory disease.  I could barely remember but yes I did recall.  Years ago I had a friend who became very ill.  I didn’t have a clue what could be wrong with her, she merely said she just felt sick all the time. Rembering that was a shock to me, after all it had been very embarrassing for her at the time and she was a shy person, even with me!

She had went to the Doctor like any other average ordinary person would do but he could never spot the problem. Tara was getting sicker and sicker.  I remember the story well.  What was she, or I to do for my best friend since childhood while she was in such awful pain? I was mortified after just having lost my favorite Aunt to a serious cancer I feared Tara had cancer too.

She seriously had to visit my own personal physician who I totally trusted. There were many times before he finally tested her for STD’s he would stand there looking clueless.  Her symptoms were far from what he said he expected for the symptoms of STD’s to be,  so he hadn’t really considered them as a potential problem.

It wasn’t until Tara became violently ill that she figured out the problem. She was having pain inside her vagina, her  legs and of course…her belly or stomach area.  My poor belly, she would say.  I used to think, while watching her rubbing it as if it were going to get better from simply rubbing.  I suppose loving herself and comforting herself made her feel better in a strange sort of phycological way.

She started to lose weight and naturally her parents, other family and friends were calling day and night to encourage her to continue seeking health advise.  Wow was she ever ill.  Then it happened, news that would shock her forever,

One night the pain became so bad she had to go into the ER.  I was in severe pain with her and for some reason they did a pap smear right then and there so I was happy they were doing everything they could for my lovely friend.   I found out Tara had pelvic infammitory disorder that was caused by chlamydia. What is chlamydia I thought.  I had already been married for several years and wasn’t concerned of STD’s but that’s what chlamydia is, it’s a sexually transmitted disease. I was in shock for her.  She was a nice girl and I couldn’t understand how this could happen.

If her pain had not been severe pain they would never have done, or potentially would not have done a pap smear which is what found her pelvic Inflamitory disorder.  Her PID (pelvic inflammatory disorder) was directly caused by chlamydia. She was in shock because she had not been sexually active in at least 6 months with a previous long-term boyfriend.  Come to find out getting Clamydia is quite common.  And it can also be completely cured. Tara was a lucky girl!

They perscribed her Doxycycline which is  a bacrerial infecton medication to treat the STD she found out she had. She now faces many risks having had chlamydia.  Now risks such as etopic pregnancy or being infertal all together might end up being her curse after all.  I felt bad because I was able to have children and did eventually have three children of my own while she never became pregnant.

Tara makes a great best-friend-aunt though!

Getting checked regulary for STDs and using protection such as condoms are important. Birth controls are not protection from sexually transmitted diseases.  However, condoms certainly reduce the risks of getting an STD and are a sure way to stay protected and prevent the spread of this very strange disease.

10 Ways Foot Drop Doesn’t Have to Slow You Down

2008年7月30日 水曜日

If you or someone you love is living with foot drop – a condition of neurological damage causing the foot to lift improperly during walking – you recognize that more help is needed than leg braces or exercises. Drop foot, as it is also known, is usually caused by a stroke, cerebral palsy or spinal cord injury, or it can be one of the early symptoms multiple sclerosis presents. People suffering from foot drop were traditionally limited to wearing bulky, unattractive orthoses (braces) to help them walk.

Vaginal Yeast Infections: Facts About Vaginal Yeast Infection

Vaginal Yeast Infections: Facts About Vaginal Yeast Infection

Seventy-five percent of all women will experience at least one vaginal yeast infection during her life and many are plagued by recurrent yeast infections. Learning to recognize the symptoms of vaginal yeast infection is vital before women attempt self-treatment.

Symptoms of yeast infection include itching, burning, redness, and irritation of the vaginal area. Severe yeast infections may cause swelling of the vulva and in some cases women experience painful and/or frequent urination which is caused by inflammation of the urinary opening.

Excessive vaginal discharge which is thicker than normal, appears whiter and curd-like (almost like cottage cheese) will be apparent in women experiencing vaginal yeast infections. Sexual intercourse may be painful due to the inflammation and dryness of the vaginal discharge.

What Causes Yeast Infections?

Canidida albicans is a yeast-like fungus that is often found in the mouth, vagina, and intestinal tract; it is a normal inhabitant of humans that usually does not cause any adverse effects. Canidida of the mouth is known as thrush and is often found in infants and people with a variety of health conditions. When canidida is found in the vagina it is known as yeast infection or monilial vaginitis.

Yeast infections are caused by an overgrowth of the normal fungi that lives in the vaginal area. The most common fungi is Canidida albicans. Overgrowth of Canidida is often a result of recent use of antibiotics, or by wearing clothing such as nylon or lycra that traps moisture and heat. Other factors that often contribute to yeast infections include pregnancy, obesity, PMS, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes.

Yeast infections are common among women infected by HIV and women who suffer from recurrent episodes of yeast infection should be tested for HIV infection. Other possible causes include the use of oral contraceptives, and consuming large amounts of sugars, starch, and yeasts.

If it’s Not a Yeast Infection, What Could it Be?

Bacterial vaginitis is a far more prevalent vaginal infection than yeast infection and is characterized by a foul odor which is not present in yeast infection. Untreated bacterial vaginitis can result in pelvic inflammatory disease and lead to future infertility. It is imperative that a woman who is self-treating what she thinks is a yeast infection be positive that her vaginal infection is actually caused by yeast and not some other infection or STD.

Sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea and herpes can be mistaken for yeast infections because some of the symptoms are similar — there is discharge associated with gonorrhea, and herpes may often cause itching. Unless a woman is absolutely positive that her vaginal infection is yeast, she should seek the advice of her physician before self-treatment begins.

Women spend million annually on OTC products and many times vaginal yeast infections are not the true culprit. Vaginal yeast infections commonly are misdiagnosed by women who buy one of the over-the-counter remedies which are available in the U.S. Self-treatment of vaginal yeast infections should never be attempted by any woman who has never been first diagnosed for at least one yeast infection by her physician.

If a woman is able to determine that her symptoms are truly caused by yeast, she has several treatment options she may choose from, including a variety of creams which are available at pharmacies throughout the U.S. Treatments with OTC products range from one to seven days. Creams available include brand names such as Monistat, Femstat, Gyne-Lotrimin, and Mycostatin.

Women who prefer a less messy alternative to the creams that are sold OTC may ask her physician for a prescription medication such as Diflucan, a one-dose oral medication for the treatment of yeast infection. Other oral medications include Nizoral, which requires that oral medication be taken for seven to 14 days either once or twice daily, depending on your physician’s recommendations.

Remember, it is always advisable to phone your physician to discuss your symptoms and ask for his/her recommendation regarding the type of treatment that is best for you.

Tips to Prevent Yeast Infections

Always wear white cotton panties; avoid nylon and lycra as much as possible; never wear panty hose without wearing cotton panties underneath.

Post menopausal women and women who use oral contraceptives may find using a vaginal lubricant during sexual intercourse helpful in preventing vaginal discomfort and irritation.

Yeast is a normal inhabitant of the intestinal tract; always wipe from front to back after a bowel movement to prevent transferring yeast to the vaginal area; care must be taken during sexual intercourse to prevent vaginal infections from occurring due to contamination with organisms from the bowel or rectum.

Some women find eating one cup of yogurt a day when taking antibiotics is helpful to prevent the yeast infections that often follow antibiotic treatment; however yogurt alone will not cure vaginal yeast infections.

Avoid perfumed bath additives, as well as powders in the vaginal area. Douching is never a good idea since it washes away the natural protective mucous of the vagina and leaves women susceptible to vaginal infections.

A healthy, well-functioning immune system is a marvel of natural microbiology, physics and biochemistry. Without it we could not survive for even the shortest period of time. Controlling and Preventing Common Lawn Fungus

Controlling and Preventing Common Lawn Fungus

It seems the each year in June I get dozens and dozens are questions related to brown spots in lawns and turf. Could it be lawn fungus or disease and will it kill my lawn? Following are some very general tips on controlling and preventing common lawn diseases and fungal problems.

Lots of late spring rain coupled with temperatures in the high seventies and eighties set up the perfect breeding ground for many common lawn disease problems. Add in some humidity, and you have a “perfect storm” of lawn problems.

Some of the more common lawn fungus problems are rust disease, red thread, summer patch, and dollar spot. None of these will turn into serious problems if you are willing to do a little work and change some of your habits.

Since we can’t control the weather, we need to make effective choices in the cultural practices we can control. Mowing high and watering consistently, but deeply and never at night are just 2 of the best ways to help control lawn diseases. In addition, you should bag your lawn clippings when conditions are favorable for fungal development.

Granular fungicides available at your local home center will work to prevent a majority of disease problems, but timing is crucial. It is best to get an application down prior to any onset of disease in the turf, meaning you should get some down in later May or early June if possible. A second granular fungicide application will serve your turf well in July.

Nitrogen is also an important factor in keeping lawn diseases to a minimum. Proper amounts of soil nitrogen allow grass to basically, “grow through” the fungus problems before they become a problem. I never recommend quick releasing synthetic fertilizers, however, because they “push” the grass plants, causing too much top growth.

It is always best to use an organic product for lawns that releases nitrogen slowly and consistently over time. Organic lawn fertilizers come in many forms, but bio-organics tend to give better results.

The final step in ensuring minimum disease pressure in your lawn is to manage the thatch layer. Thatch is the layer of dead grass and leaves that all lawns have just above the soil line.

Some thatch is good as it keeps the turf’s roots shaded and maintains moisture levels, but too much will harbor disease. If your thatch layer is more than one-half-inch thick, it is time to aerate and reduce it. You can aerate your lawn at any time during the year, as long as your machine can pull a good plug. If you can’t aerate and your thatch is too thick, it’s time to break out the rake and get those elbows working!

Whatever you do, don’t panic! Turfgrass is very forgiving and tends to live through most anything. Just keep up your proper mowing and watering, and fertilize regularly to keep that lawn looking its best!
